Project Planning Time
for Fall Plantings

Smoke Bush (Cotinus coggygria) is one of New York’s most eye-catching landscape shrubs. In spring and summer, its rich burgundy or chartreuse foliage adds bold color, while the airy, smoke-like flower plumes create a dramatic effect that lasts for weeks. Plant in full sun and well-drained soil for the best color and performance. In fall, it puts on another spectacular show with brilliant shades of orange, red, and purple. There is a standard size available and a dwarf variety.
Thinking about adding year-round interest to your landscape? A Smoke Bush is a standout choice for our gardens.

Crabgrass?

Crabgrass (Digitaria spp.) is one of the most common annual weeds found in New York lawns. It thrives in thin, stressed turf where sunlight reaches the soil, germinating in late spring as soil temperatures warm. Once established, crabgrass grows rapidly, producing thousands of seeds that can return year after year if left untreated.
Crabgrass grows in the tiniest cracks and can rapidly creep over anything including this patio.

We can treat walkways and patios with a non-selective herbicide.

The best defense against crabgrass is a thick, healthy lawn. Proper mowing, regular fertilization, overseeding bare areas, and consistent watering help desirable turf outcompete this invasive weed. Pre-emergent herbicides applied in early spring can prevent crabgrass seeds from germinating, while post-emergent treatments are most effective when plants are still young.
At Broccolo, we take a proactive approach to lawn care, combining healthy turf practices with targeted weed control to keep crabgrass from taking over your lawn.
